BEFORE & DURING THE SESSION
Q.1 Where should we go? What is the best location?
For my family photography sessions I offer both indoor (at home) shoots & outdoor. One of the most frequent question I get for an outdoor location is WHERE? Feel free to nominate anywhere you think of as I am mostly happy to travel, and MORE than happy to come to you and somewhere you and family feel comfortable. Through past clients & some scouting of my own I have found so many beautiful spots all over Melbourne from the stunning Dandenong Ranges to the sandy beaches of Mornington. I am also always happy to send through examples of past work at certain locations!
Q.2 What do we wear?
Honestly, anything you want! The session is about you and your family, and it always works best when you feel comfortable.
Don't stress about it, even more so because I understand how hard it can be to get a toddler into clothes AND keep them clean... whatever works for you, works for me!
The only thing I generally say is to try and stick to lighter tones. Darker tones (blacks/dark blues/dark greys) can sometimes appear a bit harsh but honestly it's not the end of the world! If you love dark tones, so do I!
If you're still keen for some inspiration, check out my Instagram to see what other families have worn.
If you are booking a maternity session (or a mummy and me session!) and want to hire a beautiful dress check out https://mamarentals.com.au/ - be sure to mention my name to get 15% off your rental!
Q.3. What should we expect?
When we first meet expect a smile and an enthusiastic energy, I always love meeting new families! I'll have a chat with the kids, and head off for a walk into nature together. I know it can sometimes feel awkward to get your photo taken my aim is to make it feel more like a catch up while the kids have fun! Being a mum myself I know what it's like to try and get kids to do pretty much anything sometimes so I'll follow their lead and don't worry too much about anybody looking at the lens.
Q.4. What if it rains?
A question I get a lot (especially during those cold winter months!) is what we do if it rains, or the weather is awful. I understand with little ones you don't necessarily want to be walking around in the rain and the cold, or the reverse in summer a heat wave would not be ideal either!
If this does happen I would offer an indoor at home session, we can even duck out the back quickly to get a few 'outdoor' shots if the weather clears up! Or we can reschedule, it is really up to you. Otherwise if you're happy to be out in the rain I'll bring my umbrella, you bring you're gum boots and we will make a splash!
AFTER THE SESSION
Q.1. When can we expect the images?
After the photo shoot I will endeavour to get all the low resolution images to you via an online gallery, within 21 days. For any packages including prints, this is when you will choose your images to print. From there you can usually expect something in the post within about 7 days. All up within approximately month you should have everything you ordered!
Q.2. When/how do we make payment?
As per your contract, which will be emailed after your booking request, an initial $50 non refundable booking fee is required to secure your appointment day and time. Once this has been received the package fees can be paid by online transfer, preferably within 7 days of your session. If you have any further queries about payment at all please do not hesitate to discuss this with me.
THE NITTY GRITTY
Q.1. What made you want to start your own business?
While I have a fairly lengthy answer to this, the short answer is: because it is my passion. I have always been interested in creative arts, wether it be music, theatre or multimedia. But honestly there is just something about capturing a moment of pure emotion that makes my heart sing. I love everything about it. Combine that with being out in nature most of the time? It is my dream job!
Q.2. What is your experience?
I have a long history with photography that started when I was much younger, but I will just stick to the basics here!
After studying photography in both high school & university, I went on to some in studio work followed by 4 consecutive years of Santa Photography. During those years I also did some freelance photography of birthday parties and events.
As always if you have any questions that were not answered here, please do not hesitate to ask me. 💜
